I’ve been replaying temptation over and over for the last few days
Brat summer is over and Jpegmafia fall is just beginning… even though it’s still summer. I need to listen to more of this guy’s stuff, this music is so bumpable.
Best track: Exmilitary
Worst track: i recovered from this
I’ve always thought that jazz was just one of the genres that wasn’t really for me. I mean, I’ve never disliked the genre at all as there so many jazz songs that are incredibly well made and so impressive. But it’s not something I could’ve ever seen myself listening to just casually. I was clearly very wrong about that and I’m a dumbass as usual. This is phenomenal.
Best track: Track C-Group Dancers
Worst track: none of them
This is a beautiful and atmospheric 90s album with some fantastic production and vocal performances. I’m definitely gonna have to check out some more Portishead.
Best track: Mysterons
Worst track: It Could Be Sweet
As the 80s was coming to an end, it seems like this album had taken everything that was great about the decade’s music and rolled it up into one incredible and beautiful record.
Best track: Lovesong
Worst track: Last Dance
Pretty wild that we got two Childish Gambino albums this year. I like this one more than Atavista, it’s quite fun and has some really hard beats.
Best track: Lithonia
Worst track: Can You Feel Me
This is a truly fantastic classic rock album. I know it’s in the title, but this record is so electric. Every song is so groovy and fun, the instrumentals are masterful and Jimi’s vocal performance is amazing.
Best track: All Along the Watchtower
Worst track: …And the Gods Made Love
X’s? More like Z’s, because this album is putting me to sleep.
Best track: X’s
Worst track: Tejano Blue
This is a really great, primarily instrumental, album. It reminds me a lot of 70s progressive rock, which is maybe my favourite genre. It’s definitely unique and beautiful and while it may not have as much casual listenability as some albums in the same vein, the experience of listening to the record front to back is amazing.
Best track: East Hastings
Worst track: Providence
When did Eminem become Tom MacDonald?
Best track: Fuel
Worst track: Habits
This is a very beautiful indie folk record with very personal and heavy hitting themes behind it. It’s definitely a visceral experience to listen to and uses a culmination of soft guitar and heartfelt vocals to create a uniquely sad atmosphere.
Best track: Flume
Worst track: Team
This is a very solid hip hop album with some really unique beats that use a more trap style than most records I’ve heard. The flow on most tracks is very impressive and the majority of the songs are a lot of fun.
Best track: Yeah Right
Worst track: Alyssa Interlude
This little project is only two songs so it’s hard to rate against other albums or EPs with more tracks, but for only two songs and 8 minutes I think this had a surprising amount of substance. I wouldn’t say either song is a masterpiece but both are really nice. Maybe I’m biased because I just really like the sound of acoustic guitars but I honestly hope Billie does more songs in this style because her voice with the soft guitar and minimal instrumentals is really nice to ... read more
The new MGMT album can be a bit of a mixed bag, but I liked it overall. A few of the tracks can be a bit cheesy, but a few of them also surprised me with how reminiscent they were of the band’s older songs.
Best track: Nothing Changes
Worst track: People In The Streets
I don’t think I need to explain why this album is so good.
Best track: C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me)
Worst track: Clan In Da Front
I feel like this album has a slightly more R&B vibe than Back To Black. The songs are a bit less groovy but more soulful, and honestly I think Amy Winehouse excels at both styles.
Best track: You Sent Me Flying / Cherry
Worst track: Outro
