Caroline Polachek’s craft is so beautiful here, it really feels like she knows what she’s doing. It’s complex but simple at the same time, the production is great and her voice ties the whole experience together.

For an album that’s supposed to be very personal and heartfelt, it made me feel absolutely nothing. No emotion.
I was looking forward to it, hoping that maybe this time she drops something good. And while I think Portals is an improvement, it’s ends up being just another Melanie Martinez record.

Okay, so.. first off, this is a lot better than Death, it feels more genuine plus it just sounds better. I liked the instrumentals a lot, especially during the verces. Unfortunately (and this is purely subjective), her voice kind of ruins it for me. Idk what it is, but I just don't like it. And like I said, while I think it's a step in the right direction, it's still not great. Looking forward to hearing the whole album, I'm interested to see where she goes from here.
