It's pretty solid indie rock, I feel like there isn't a huge amount of novel ideas on here but it's overall solid. I can definitely hear some modern post-AM Arctic Monkeys influence on this album, especially Sunrise which I felt sounded like AM but good as I was listening through it :)
Plead the Fifth was probably my favourite track on here I think there was just something about the groove overall that worked despite the fact the fifth isn't an Australian thing.
A little bit Thornhill, a little bit early Panic! at the Disco and a little bit Tetsuya Nomura, this EP by Kamilaroi/Tamworth nu-metal/electropop artist sounds like it's the soundtrack to a Sci-Fi RPG down to the intro track sounding like the opening menu theme. Between Trauma which sounds like a djent-y rap metal cut or Dysphoria which has a bit of a Pendulum to it, the album always hits this emotional chord beneath all the metalcore elements in the lyricism about being scared to step ... read more
Imma be real with this one, I'm not feeling it as much as I was hoping to. I think the track Hog Calling Contest in particular biased my idea of what this was gonna be going in but overall the album felt flatter than I expected, like, there was something weirdly dull sounding to some of the instruments, especially the drums, in a way that just lost some of the phrenetic energy that it seemed like it was going for. Despite that Hog Calling Contest is one of my favourite songs of the year,.
Nerissa's debut EP shows probably the most potential out of any recent HoloEN VTubers. This EP is still rough, it feels like it's got a lot of growing pains and both the production and Nerissa's vocals still aren't QUITE where they need to be to pull off this nostalgic feel that the EP is going for with this nu-disco and city pop style.
Say My Name feels extremely derivative of Dance The Night Away by Dua Lipa to the point I thought the teaser was going to be a cover for it. ... read more
Naarm/Melbourne artist Sunny Morris' sophomore album is an overwhelmingly heartbreaking experience, singing about her struggles as a trans woman to be accepted by her family, to find confidence in herself, or to reclaim the childhood she lost to being raised as if she was a cisgender man, alongside trying to juggle the idea that she's even worthy of love and having a lifelong partner on a song like Ring. Some parts definitely see her voice faltering a little bit or seeing some songs ... read more
Overall, this second record from Yugambeh/Gold Coast band Eliza and the Delusionals is really solid. It feels very nostalgic, like something ripped out of classic 00s Aussie tween dramas like Blue Water High or H2O Just Add Water, with warm synth layering and some more tom heavy drumming. Outside of that it kind of fails to escape that feeling of being a nostalgic record that's trapped in the past though, it feels like most of the stuff on here is a faint whisper of something you've ... read more
It's pretty okay punk but overall it can sometimes feel a little too stiff for it's own good.
I'm writing this review live from 3 tracks into the album but so far this album is wild. It's not good, but it's wild. I'm sure Byron Bay pop muso Toni Watson AKA Tones and I needs no introduction but she's truly one of the artists ever. However, despite not being a good musician, she kind of seems like a healthier human being between the release of Madhouse and this album both physically and mentally and I went in curious about whether that would be reflected in a ... read more
I'm getting exhausted with this song at this point Calli stop milking it but I think LUSS actually adds to the track unlike the Yoon remix.
NAW BRO THIS IS FUCKING WILD ARE WE SURE THIS ISN'T CHARLI COMING OUT AS BI CAUSE DAMN
Imma be real on this, I'm not really messing with this as much as I have in the past, and IDK if it's cause I'm getting a little exhausted with Peggy being the mixing equivalent to a Christopher Nolan movie, I feel like I've heard the stuff he's doing more interesting on previous projects or the fact he's only 5 months removed from embarassing himself after showing up on Vultures, putting all his social commentary into question and getting embarassed by Freddie ... read more
When an album so thoroughly changes your life and speaks to you in the way Porter's previous album Nurture did for me, it becomes had to seperate that work from everything they make afterwards. I've had some friends who took a while to warm up to Nurture because of how Worlds connected with them, I had the same happen to me for Gang of Youths' angel in realtime because of how foundational Go Farther in Lightness is to me. So I gave Smile a few listens before reviewing it, keeping ... read more
I mean, not horrible but it's just completely unmemorable for an album that's an hour long of EDM music. I just don't care the longer it goes on and it's too easy to lose interest.
Also weebs stop using the word loli in your fucking track titles you weirdfucks.

Lime Cordiale have been an Australian music staple since the song Dirt Cheap, the second single to their 3rd album 14 Steps To A Better You, and they're a band that I've had less and less interest with as time's gone on. They were a little fun, sometimes the gimmicks from songs that they used wore a little thin with high radio rotation, but it never really felt like ... read more
I wanted to like this and the opening run of songs gave me hope, but the return of Empire of the Sun still lives in the shadow of their best work. There are some songs that work here, Changes is solid, Cherry Blossom was easily my favourite song on here and despite what the red score at the time of listening I think Wild World is the most creative track on this project that doesn't feel like it's unearned or pretentious. There are elements of Wild World that don't work and make ... read more
Honestly, it's not too much different from the original track it feels like there's a little too much going on at times. I don't think Yoon and Calli's vocals really match though, where Yoon is clearly trying to be super smooth due to K-Pop training in comparison to Calli.
I was almost fucking with it but my god whatever happened there at the end kinda killed the song for me.
