The debut solo EP from the solo project of former Pinkish Blu member Kanada The Loop was an unfortunate disappointment. Both the singles that were dropped prior to this EP gave the idea that Kanada The Loop was going to be a new face in the Australian hyperpop scene, one more on the more abrasive ends of the sound compared to where other Australian artists like NINAJIRACHI and Wave Racer have taken the scene in the past few years.
Unfortunately, after the lead single, Nuh Uh, sounded like ... read more
While I feel like Go Farther in Lightness might come across as melodramatic, I think the way that Dave Le'aupepe delivers the storytelling, the way this album progresses through its phases, exploring a picture of the aftermath of a traumatic event, dipping into your lowest emotional moments and rising back up again to restate your own meaning in life is just beautiful. The run from the low of Achilles Come Down to the opening of Let Me Down Easy is one of my favourite runs of tracks and ... read more
I'll be completely honest, I went into this record not expecting a lot and came out pleasantly surprised. They leveled up their energy a lot from High Risk Behaviour, and while they aren't reinventing the wheel, some of the simple gripes they go on about just hit so well as a result.
Also the rating for Panic Attack as an individual song being the lowest is a crime, I've only had one other piece of media just replicate the intensity of how I've felt during a panic attack myself, and the fact a ... read more
Dude's trying so hard to be edgy it hurts. Listening to it is the equivalent of eating at a hotel breakfast, everything is bland except one thing that is the only thing you eat just because it's slightly less bland. Maybe is the only song on the album that I think could be considered a guilty pleasure but only in that I don't hate myself while listening to it, I'd still rather listen to anything else over it.
I honestly didn't realise that Augie March were still around till this turned up on my feed. While I enjoy the commentary on the state of Australian politics, being released soon before the 2022 Australian election, there is a really overwhelming sense of nihilism across this album. I didn't really feel the record at first, the closing moments of The Scent of Power got me interested in giving it another shot, and while I enjoy some of the ideas of the album, way too many of the conclusions ... read more
Recommended by a mate to me and the album was an awesome listen. Took some really great prog and jazz stylings and attached it to vocals that wouldn't be out of place on a pop punk record (I mean this in the best way). Strongly recommend, well worth a listen.
