Kehlanis self title project "Kehlani'' starts to fall off during the second half, sadly. It could’ve been a great mix of artists and songs if it didn’t feel so safe. I swear they even reuse the guitar and backing from “Folded” on “Sweet Nothings” with Leon Thomas, which is honestly disappointing. If you cut everything after “Out the Window” and just rearranged the tracklist a bit, that should’ve been the album.

As a project with deeper substance, there isn’t a whole lot here. But as a vibe, especially for parties or just driving around with your partner or friends, it definitely works.
One thing that stood out to me was the vocal mixing. The vocals feel pushed back and slightly muted. I’m not sure if that’s because of how it was recorded, possibly through a prison phone, or if it was a stylistic choice, but it’s noticeable right away.
