Another "mature" album from 2 Chainz, and it's worse than the last. PGLTM raised my expectations, but I kind of expected this after hearing the EPs Chainz dropped in the last year. This album is very average and Chainz is mostly to blame for the mediocrity, as the production is great and the features are solid for the most part. I'm pretty disappointed, was hoping for better.
Long overdue and a bit too late. Jay Critch was popping at the beginning of 2018 but by the time this album dropped in November his hype was all but gone. Luckily, the album is actually good. The wait was worth it and it's nice hearing more music from Jay. I enjoyed this, and I wonder where Jay Critch will go from here.
I actually really enjoyed Lil Skies' previous album Life of a Dark Rose and was kind of looking forward to more music from him. Shelby was incredibly disappointing. There wasn't that same energy that Lil Skies used to have and when his delivery was tolerable, the beats and lyrics didn't match. I'm probably never revisiting this, it was way too bland and boring.
Ella Mai surprised me. Only music I had heard from her before was Boo'd Up and I wasn't completely sold on her. This album was solid, but not without flaws. Ella Mai can sing and the production on here can be good, but man are these songs boring or drawn out sometimes. Which then makes you focus on the songwriting which can be weak at times. If Ella Mai released a more focused body of work I can tell you right now I'd have really liked it.
