Joining the ranks of Black Country New Road and Horsegirl in the hall of artists who pivoted around the absence of a band member this year, the absence of Max Oleartchick is more than felt throughout the record, but put under this strain big thief evolves with one of their most experimental albums in both songwriting and psychedelic/electronic composition. While maintaining the beloved backbone which defined their previous work.
God this album is so good, it takes a couple of spins to wrap your head around, but the vocals grow on you, a fantastic record
Autistic kids when they hear a piece of music with a saxophone in it: “Oh My God Guys It’s Like BC,NR For real” this is in pallet much more similar to the album Squid released this year than what Black Country new road is making, and they released their first record at the same time “Ants From Up There” came out, this is an intricately layered, lush, but explosive record which plays with many influences, and is better than anything that I’ve heard all year! ... read more
A generic middle of the road ultra inoffensive iHeartRadio ahh album, might be a six if it wasn’t cultural appropriation
An album which takes so many chances you would think these fellas have a gambling addiction, you go from thinking AOTY to pulling your hair out, but over time the album has grown on me, warts and all, with plenty to keep you coming back
I would invite anyone who enjoys this record to listen to other forms of slowcore and post rock, and then ask yourself if this is all that groundbreaking for the genre, take away the reverb and this release doesn’t hit so hard, it’s saving grace is the songwriting which is undeniably enjoyable.
A strong open, a strong middle, and a strong finish, with just a tiny 🤏 bit of filler here and there. Overall an infectious listen
Can’t tell whether I’m supposed to cry, or jive… guess I’ll just have to do both. McKinley Goatson
JID takes a victory lap after his magnum opus If anyone has earned the right, it’s him. This album may not flow cohesively, but it’s everything great about JID done better than anyone could’ve expected, a celebration of all he’s accomplished and what’s to come
This sort of remind anyone of I am the fun blame monster by Menomena, but catchier???
Black midi but the pallete is straight out of the 1970s, incredible album
Theater core done right, the best composed pop album this year, with hooks to spare, the songwriting never ceases to amaze and entertain, a gem
It’s a real head scratcher, who is this for? Long time fans are disappointed by the move away from hard hitting and relatable songwriting,, this isn’t even a full album, it took these pathetic losers 5 years to write it. They completely abandoned the formula they used for hit single My Oridnary Life, the average listener is turned off by the new grody hip hop sound
Nobody thought that punk needed saving, these boys stepped up anyway, they’re not the heroes we need, and I don’t know what we did to deserve them, but I get the feeling they’re here to stay
King gizzard and the lizard wizard release a record so jampacked with every instrument in the history of our great planet every color of the rainbow every beautiful day with your friends at the pool every joke you’ve laughed just a little bit too hard at, and everything in between, this album is a celebration of the last 55 years of pop rock Funk and soul, and a celebration of KGATLW’s rich and all-time great discography it’s difficult to describe the way I feel about this ... read more
