Some incredible musicianship on show, raw, earnest vocals as usual, and amazing writing. Need to listen to more full Hot Mulligan LPs.
After their last album was awful, I was fully expecting Three Days Grace to be completely done for. But bringing back Adam Gontier did clearly change the tides somewhat for them. There's still a lot of really generic stuff on this record, but it's a much more pleasant listen than their previous effort. Honestly the main issue is just that Matt Walst doesn't stack up to Adam vocally, and the difference is pretty notable when they're both singing. Guitar tones are pretty ... read more
Beautiful, beautiful record. Laufey's best writing yet, phenomenal production, a lot of variety in the styles, and no notably weak tracks.
I wish I had listened to the title. Not technically awful but absolutely nothing I find particularly compelling or interesting sadly. There's definitely an audience for this and people who will find it fun, but I'm just not one of those people. To me, this is very boring. Lost Your Faith is great though.
Got to listen to this one early to review it and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised, gorgeous production and very strong lyricism on this one. Gonna watch out for this artist from here on out.
Just how deeply special and unique a songwriter Conor Oberst is cannot be understated. This is a beautiful record which shows roots and signs of what Bright Eyes and Conor's solo catalog would continue blossoming into, with some really gentle and touching production and, as I mentioned, brilliant lyricism. A fantastic, extremely conceptual and cohesive body of work.
Man somehow managed to out-boring Lil Baby's album, that's almost impressive. Indistinguishable beats, sleepy rapping, unmemorable features - there's nothing to like on this one.
Extremely pleasantly surprised by this one, a lot better than I expected. Really messed with some of the production choices, and the writing is just quirky enough to not be irritating too, sharp and witty in some places. Nothing crazy as far as pop records go, but a quality listen nonetheless.
Squeaky cyborg goose man and company strike again after a lengthy break, the recession indicator of all recession indicators. To his credit, Adam Levine has found a way to make his voice less grating - but he hasn't found a way to give the music any soul or defining characteristics. Also the songwriting on the deluxe tracks is laughably bad but technically they're not part of this edition.
Arguably the most fun and energetic record of the year. If Tyler's was Don't Tap The Glass, this is "put a fist through the glass with a grin on your face and dance maniacally on the shards". The rapping is great, the flows are smooth, plenty of hilarious punchlines, three great features, incredibly well-executed production - in other words, hell yeah.
Conan's best album yet comfortably. The Avengers-level team of producers knocks it out of the park on every track, and Conan's writing and vocals are stronger and more soul-piercing than ever. I had hopes for this record, but what it delivered exceeds my expectations tenfold. One of the best albums of the year.
This is gorgeous in a million ways that cannot be described by words. The opening four-track run is absolute 10/10 throughout; the concept is captivating and devastating in all the right ways. The writing is really strong, the vocals are great, and the production is hypnotizing. Fantastic record, one of the stronger ones of the year so far.
Incredibly atmospheric and nostalgic sounding record. One of my favorite album openers of the year, haunting and mellow, and the rest of the album does a wonderful job living up to the first track.
Definitely not as good as The Forever Story, but this is still a very strong record from JID; the flows are still break-neck and phenomenally executed, there's plenty of sharp lyrical moments, and the production is fantastic as well. No idea what Westside Gunn was going on about on the first track though.
Probably the best mgk album since Tickets To My Downfall but that really isn't saying much cause almost everything he's released since 2022 has been atrocious. I used to actually be a pretty big fan of his in 2019-2021ish, but every new project he drops is more and more confusing to me. There's a lot going on here that's kind of inexplicable, and the lack of features hurts too. But it could've been way worse.
Several levels above their last album, much more earnest and not nearly as overproduced. Some of it is nostalgic in a cute way. Still some very weird musical decisions though - I struggled to finish the record because I kept going back to the song with the bizarre Bee Gees interpolation chorus and sitting there laughing like an insane person.
If Jeff Buckley hadn't died he would be the greatest singer-songwriter of all time. That is a firm conviction of mine and I don't think I will ever change my mind on this.
Some of the production is overdone and some of the lyrics are pretentious and fake edgy but overall a solid pop/pop rock album. nothing too wrong with it except that weird switchup at the end of Mamá
