Smi.. I'm a bit disappointed. Only a bit.

Smino has been one of my favorite rappers and artists overall for a while now, so when I heard he was dropping a new project, I was excited. When I heard Dear Fren come on, I thought I was in for a treat. And for some songs I was. Smino still flows and sings over complex rythms and trippy melodies, but some of that finesse Is missing here.

Freddie Gibbs is one of my favorite rappers of the modern era, and all time. He can't put out a bad project. That being said, much of the production on this record leaves more to be desired, and the instrumentals subdue Freddie's fervor. Freddie is still rapping at the top of his game, that never seems to change. It's hazy, it's a vibe. I don't have a ton to say. It feels like a bridge to a better project.

What can I say that hasn't already been said. Groovy west coast beats, unique Kendrick Flows, memorable features, a few introspective cuts, what more could you ask for from this album.

Wacced out murals is a proclamation, a new phase for Kendrick. The beef is over, he finished Drake and now he wants the culture to follow him, wherever that may be.
