i love when people have the self belief to just be themselves. kanye is hilarious, self-conscious and egotistical. he is human and i think his humanity as well as his own artist vision really shine through on this one.
i think this, for me, will always be his best work with his best song. the whole trilogy is great but this feels like the arrival of an artist who influences a whole generation of rap and hiphop.
not much to say except that this is clearly a man operating at the absolute peak of his powers. kanye is at his best when he is vulnerable and confident and he does both on this album, almost perfectly. a genuine masterpiece.
put this off for ages despite being excited for it to drop. i am glad i waited until i was in a space properly obsess over this record. less of an album and more of a musical experience, i can always appreciate a body of work that can put you in an entirely different place, in an entirely different world. i think the only pitfall is that quadeca is a bit too expansive with the song lengths in the album, with some songs dragging out for a bit too long. it's an understandable artist choice ... read more
i can't help but really like this record, or atleast it's first half considerably after 'succubus'. still ken carson does a fantastic job in the first half and is extremely entertaining with the production never feeling drawn out or too consuming. it's a very fun album with some songs a very frequently revisit. i do ,however, wish it was a bit shorter.
my only issue with this record is my issue with all carti records, it's a bit too long but is excused by the fact that rap/trap albums were all kind of bloated at this time. with that being said, carti REALLY performs on this. i can understand why some say it's his best work, i don't agree but can definitely understand considering this feels like a party perpetually at its peak or just before it.
i kind of wish carti went in the direction of his more pop punk inspired trap music off the back end of WLR and the singles released before this record. also a bit disappointed at how long this album took to release, but the main problem with it is it's length. 30 songs is absurd and it almost ruins an otherwise very entertaining record.
i just hope carti realises how much he changed music with this. once it clicks you never really go back as carti extends his influence to the rest of rap music, shaping trends and subgenres in his own imagine. for me, its his magnum opus.
it's very hard to not fall in love with this record and jim's artist vision. i appreciate an artist soo utterly unique that they make me want to make art myself and jim is that and more.
i always interpret this album as a victory lap for someone soo influential and soo important to music as an art form that by their third studio album they have nothing left to prove. the songs i don't really like on this record like (specifically 'YAH') aren't even that bad, just different, and that's ok.
for a record this good to be the equivalent of tyler finding his feet is truly a testament to how good talent he is.
sonically and lyrically this album is outstanding. simply really good music from a really good artist.
i think this is tyler at his most tyler, making music that is completely and utterly him. i appreciate his honesty on this more than i did on other "better" records. it's not one of my favourites from him but it's amazing to be able tkpeak into his mind post the amazing late 2010s and early 2020s run he had as he redefines any expectation i've ever had of him.
not a huge fan of tyler's stuff pre-flowerboy but this album seemingly gets better and better as i come back to it. as vulnerable as he is scared of that same vulnerability. one of best for sure.
not my favourite, but probably the best album of all time if that makes sense.
