Yves’ debut is my most anticipated post-LOONA project by far, even more so than ARTMS. I was a little disappointed when the tracklist and accompanying credits dropped and saw that Yves is not credited in the production at all. It’s nothing new in K-pop, but at this point in Yves’ career, which is taking a more indie route, I was hoping that this would mean Yves would be more involved in the production side of things. Alas, that is not the case.
Sound-wise, Yves’ debut is all over the place. There is no consistent sound throughout the runtime. You jump from RnB to 2-Step to rock to ballad in a span of 12 minutes. The attempts at rock and ballad are quite mediocre, and I can't say much about them except that they stain the strong opening the RnB and 2-Step tracks brought to the table. While the RnB and 2-Step tracks are good, I don’t think Yves really brings anything new to the table. Maybe in the K-pop landscape, but definitely not in the indie scene. I’d rather listen to Sumin if I want to hear eclectic RnB, and Bebe Yana for the 2-Step sound since what Yves is attempting on those two tracks is already very similar to what both artists have done, just in a very compressed runtime, not even reaching 3 minutes. For that reason, I only recommend this album if you are a huge Yves/LOONA fan or just curious about how the indiest post-LOONA project sounds.
