ROSÉ - rosie
50

I was hoping my expectations would be subverted after listening to this, but my initial impression from the moment she announced the release of the full album remains unchanged: "That album is gonna be mid." Like any other mid pop album, it’s not necessarily bad, it just feels pointless. There’s little to distinguish Rose’s first full album from the sea of bland, inoffensive pop records that we’ve been blessed with over the past few years. I just wish she would ... read more

BABYMONSTER - DRIP
40

This shit so mid it wakes me up from my review slumber.

It’s not terrible per se. I mean the 2 songs that are mainly promoted from this album, “CLIK CLAK” and “DRIP”, are not as terrible as “SHEESH” and “BATTER UP”. If any, some parts on those 2 tracks are kinda solid. The biggest issue here is the fact that there is no significant improvement at all compared to their debut. Yes, the title track and pre-release are an improvement, but the ... read more

Yves - LOOP

Yves’ debut is my most anticipated post-LOONA project by far, even more so than ARTMS. I was a little disappointed when the tracklist and accompanying credits dropped and saw that Yves is not credited in the production at all. It’s nothing new in K-pop, but at this point in Yves’ career, which is taking a more indie route, I was hoping that this would mean Yves would be more involved in the production side of things. Alas, that is not the case.

Sound-wise, Yves’ debut ... read more

QWER - MANITO
70

Ever since I became aware of QWER's existence, I have always had them under my radar because of how intriguing they are. The background of the members is one thing, and the sound they offer is another. I thought the Jpop/Jrock influenced sound showcased on their debut was great, but the songwriting could have been improved. Unfortunately, I don’t think it improved as much as I would have liked on this EP. With an energetic and bright sound, I was hoping that the hooks would be catchier or ... read more

BABYMONSTER - BABYMONS7ER

My gooooooooooooooood. How is supposedly one of the top companies in Kpop releases a debut album that felt like a nugu group chasing a trend that was popular 5 years ago and make it sound way worse. When the album doesn’t sound bland and lazy, it pulls out all the bad things Blackpink has offered to the Kpop landscape and repackages it into an irritating track. Honestly, if you told me that “SHEESH” was actually a BP track that made them split up because they didn’t want ... read more

ARTMS - Pre 1 : Birth
NR

I HATE the release schedule of this ARTMS album. Spreading it over 2 months is just dragging it out way too much. I know it’s a western style release but it is a tedious rollout. I mean this track is clearly an intro track and I just don't find it fit as a single personally yet here it is because of this release roadmap. Idk LOOSSEMBLE is dropping their sophomore album before ARTMS dropped their debut, lil bro just drop your album.

I do understand that LOONA is the darling child of ... read more

RESCENE - Re:Scene
70

Production-wise, 'Re:Scene' really reminds me of N̶e̶w̶J̶e̶a̶n̶s̶ GWSN quite a bit. The usage of synths is very bold, showcasing both a playful, bouncy style as seen in 'YoYo,' and a grittier, thicker style as displayed in 'UhUh.' While the vocals and songwriting are nothing remarkable, it doesn’t really matter because honestly, this single album is all about the splendid synth work. However, some of the hooks and vocal passages come off as a bit too goofy or awkward for my taste, ... read more

ILLIT - SUPER REAL ME
80

Despite having a shit group name, ILLIT's debut is honestly great. I think it's very easy for current groups to fall into the NewJeans trap where they try to do the sound NJ is doing but fail to capture the essence that makes NJ's music pop off. ILLIT almost falls into that same trap if not for the fact that they put their own recipe into it. They opted for a stronger beat as the foundation for most tracks which makes the track has more of a dancy feel to it yet they somehow still feel ... read more

X:IN - THE REAL

I discovered this amazing group through Instagram Reels (yes I know it's a disgrace that I use it, but TikTok or YT Shorts is just as disgraceful so don't act holier than thou here because we're on the same degen boat, brother). In said Reels, people are clowning on the lyrics of "MY IDOL" which prompted me to check out the rest of their discog before listening to this EP. And to put it bluntly, this group is quite awful. It is honestly amazing how they manage to gather ALL the worst ... read more

東京事変 [Tokyo Jihen] - 大人 (アダルト) [Adult]
90

If “Education” is the young adult year where it’s the year where you pursue as much fun as possible despite being inconsistent emotionally in courtesy of early teenage angst and trying a lot of different things life has to offer, “Adult” is, as the name suggest, the adult year where you are more mature, emotionally stable, and starting to appreciate the subtle intricacies of life way more. Initially, might seem like a way too drastic of a change, but after some ... read more

WENDY - Wish You Hell
60

The production is nice and Wendy's vocal is good as always. I was worried that the EP is going to be a little bit edgy after knowing the title of it but that's not the case. The album is filled with smooth RnB tracks that allows Wendy to slide through one note to the other. The title track is the exception here but it's not too far-fetched with the rest of the album so it fits right in. My issue with the EP is it is too homogenous for me to latch onto a particular track. It's one of those ... read more

Probably the only thing Jennie has been in the last 3 years that doesn't suck ass.

LE SSERAFIM - EASY
30

Oh boy oh boy.

I always find LE SSERAFIM to be similar to IVE on how they don’t really have a defining sound that solidifies their identity. While you can argue that it makes them diverse, the issue is, the way they tackle their music is very very safe and quite bland. The listening experience might be pleasant but nothing latches onto your brain because nothing is really that notable for you to keep on your mind. Of course there are exceptions in their discography, but this album is not ... read more

IU - LILAC

How is "Troll" the lowest rated track here? It's one hell of a banger.

I definitely underrate this album when it came out. Coming back to it after 3 years just solidify how well it ages. Except for "Hi Spring Bye" and "Celebrity" with its weird EDM masculine moan on its beat drop (thanks alot Ryan Jhun), I'd say every track here is great and has its own personality. IU jumps from one sound from one track to another which makes the listening experience never stale ... read more

東京事変 [Tokyo Jihen] - 教育 [Education]
80

Despite being formed by the legendary Sheena Ringo, Tokyo Jihen (or Tokyo Incident) is really lacking any kind of attention on this site. None of the band’s albums reached 50 ratings which is a heinous crime. In that regard, I will be reviewing every single one of their albums in order to bring more attention towards this amazing group (and also Sheena Ringo because she is quite underappreciated on this site too).

Tokyo Jihen knocked it out of the park with their debut. The poppy art ... read more

Adventure Time - Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake - Season 1 (Soundtrack from the Animated Series)

You know a show is good when the manifestation of the inevitable death of all things got a depression.

It also got nice tunes.

설아 [SEOLA] - INSIDE OUT
70

For a bit I didn’t think that SeolA’s solo debut would be any good. Even after listening to the first and the main promotional track of the album, I still feel that way. It sounded very safe and not really interesting. But the moment when that 2-step and pulsating beat kicks in on “Let’s Talk”, I know that checking on this single album is not a waste of time. They even did more 2-step on “NO GIRL” which is even more prevalent than the previous track. ... read more
