Since I’m currently on a streak of reviewing albums my girlfriend likes or recommended to me (maybe it’s because I’m on vacation and way too far away from her - who knows), I had to put all my brain cells together to remember what albums she’s mentioned before. She’s more of a “song” listener than an “album” listener, which I totally respect - she’ll pick a few gems out of anything and love them deeply, while I’m here analyzing ... read more
This album was recommended to me by my girlfriend a few months ago, and I followed her advice and listened to it - but somehow I never got around to actually writing a review. It’s definitely fun, colorful, and creative, and you can tell why it was so influential at the time. The production is playful, the skits and overall concept were new and different, and it helped push hip hop into a more experimental direction. But as a listening experience, it just didn’t hit me the same way as other classics from that era.
