Gil finds beauty in the somber and expresses it not only through the smooth, expressive instrumentation but also through his infinitely thoughtful and poetic lyricism. The songs throughout speak on injustice in a completely honest manner, sure not to leave out the evils that exist in the world, but in a truly revolutionary fashion, delivering them with an underlying sense of hope and love. "Free Will" is an unforgiving statement of truth, all while being incredibly enjoyable to listen ... read more
Everyone needs to stop underrating ELUCID right now! Here is another amazing project with just such a solid tracklist and refreshing feel. Amazing production, unique lyrical style, and some great feature performances.
I really enjoyed "Collection Plates" and the rest of the songs arent bad, but I dont think I will be coming back to this much. Overall good.
Ok what? I love the sound of this album, but every song feels like it's going nowhere. I wish Dalek were actually on here more; most of the songs just feel like they drone on without any substance. Really great production and some cool ideas, but overall just bad execution.
I've been here since the beginning! From Niagara in 2020 to attending his "learn 2 swim" tour in 2022, I have been anticipating this album for a long time, and after a three year wait, redveil has given us what I would call his most realized album. Sankofa evolves redveil’s production to a new level, with impactful emotional and politically charged moments, all while keeping the heart and passion he has had from the beginning. Amazing album.
These songs are all at least good, and some are really good, but I don't think there was anything super amazing about this album. I still really enjoyed it a lot and will definitely come back to some of these songs in the future.
Boldy finally gets the great level of production he deserves, proving that when given the opportunity, he can make a deeply impactful and extremely impressive album.
DUDE! Elucid needs so much more love for his independent stuff, this was awesome.
Gotta be one of the most underrated billy woods albums. The production is so great and the album is really efficient with its runtime.
Sure, it's pretty long and a bit inconsistent, but I still really love what I'm hearing. I think its interesting to hear some of Billy Woods older stuff because I think he had quite a different sound pre "Known Unknowns". this reminds mee a lot of History will Absolve me but a bit less focused.
The variety of this album is good, but I also like some of the styles more than others. The features were similar, I loved the variety but some didn’t hit as hard. Sometimes I felt like Danny was a feature on his own song, branching out into so many styles of hyper pop, that it seemed like he didn't have his own voice. Overall though, I like this album, and I think if he continues to make music more similar to this he'll be able to craft his own distinct sound.
Off the first listen this was an easy 9/10. Could get even better with time, but I'm just so happy to see Armand Hammer and The Alchemist reunite. I don't know where this narrative of the Alchemist's beats being boring came from but can yall please just shut up about it?
Listened to this while playing minecraft and drinking a white monster.
It's rare for me to give 90 to something instantly after listening to something, but wow, this was just incredible. The lyrical delivery on every single line is so passionate, which is only made better by the masterful instrumentation. I think i need to watch this movie now.
Not bad, I like the lyrics but sometimes they come off as kind of corny. Probably wont come back to this at all if I'm being honest.
Surprised I'm just hearing this now. All these songs are just so unique and intense. The production is just amazing and super immersive. The rapping is also great and reminds me a lot of Elucid from Armand Hammer.
It's overall very chill and fun to throw on but can just be kind of so-so at some points. I think this album would have benefitted more if the songs were more full or had more structure. Also it's pretty long.
