peggy carries over his “SCARING THE HOES” style, but infuses it with a rock-rap flair.
i really love the instrumentals on this record. the mix of electric guitars and glitchy drums make for an insanely hectic listening experience. peggy also does really well vocally over this style of production too, with tons of energetic flows and witty one liners. there’s not much “NEW” content wise in his raps here, but i think he brings enough to the table to enhance each ... read more
very disappointed in this record. while a lot of what i like about peggy’s production is intact, and even at times exemplified with the hardcore dubstep and overall more chaotic beats. it all feels kinda wasted when peggy uses the same triplet flow over and over again. it makes what could’ve been another great album into one that’s just decent.
it just feels like “SCARING THE HOES” and “I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU” but watered down, to me. even if i ... read more
i need. more. SONG. i feel like this track is missing a really crazy moment or a crescendo, i don’t know. it’s still a very solid song but it just ends when i’m getting into the groove of it.
I wish he went heavier on the rock production, especially with the guitars. but aside from that, great single from mr staples.
definitely better than ‘Rock Music’, but still doesnt do all that much for me regardless. it’s decent.
after a seemingly scrapped rollout, and minor hints over the past year or so. Drake has released not one, but THREE albums. HABIBTI, MAID OF HONOUR, and of course ICEMAN. if i have to be honest, the first two records did not give me hope for this one. both felt very flat and i personally don’t see them ever stepping out of ICEMAN’s shadow as “warm-up albums”.
but, i will say, ICEMAN is actually a decent record. I think he sticks to what he does best for the majority of ... read more
coming off of HABIBTI, which was a nothingburger, i didn’t expect much from MAID OF HONOUR. and, for the most part, i was correct. even though it is better than HABIBTI, this record still has most of the same issues. I can at least see myself vibing and even enjoying some of these tracks in a social/club setting, but on my own? there are probably 100 drake songs i’d go for over anything on here. including songs from Honestly, Nevermind. which this album seems to be a spiritual ... read more
there’s not much going for this album. i know the #1 argument for Drake’s music is that it “isn’t that deep” and that you just have to “vibe with it” but man, when the sound is bad, the vibes are bad, and the lyrics are bad, what do you really expect to happen? it’s boring, repetitive, and not worth the time.
one point i feel like i have to make as well, i don’t think in any universe people are going to be able to understand the fact that ... read more
coming off their Self-Titled record, Gorillaz take their sound in a darker and more serious direction on ‘Demon Days’, A shift in sound that works perfectly with the genres they take influence from. Although it’s their most popular record by a landslide, it still stands the test of time with its core anti-war themes, and the overall concept of humanity’s inner demons.
immaculate storytelling, catchy hooks / melodies, fantastic production, and incredible rapping. ‘Good Kid, m.A.A.d. City’ is an all-in-one package example of what a conceptual rap album should be.
a solid collection of live renditions from over the years. I’m especially happy to hear the live mixes of ‘Hey Ma’ and ‘Sh’Diah’. Those two performances have been ones that I frequent, so to hear them straight from the mixing board is such a joy.
The Weeknd takes a turn into a more traditional pop direction, coming off of his last record ‘Kiss Land’. which was also a subversion from his previous era’s sound. I do think that The Weeknd loses a little of his edge on this project, but still, it’s a solid collection of pop tunes.
time quite literally slows down whenever I listen to this record. it may not be focused on capturing the listener with catchy hooks, or traditional song structures, Duster instead chooses to focus on curating a specific vibe throughout the entire album. and the vibe is existential crisis.
raw, powerful, borderline ear piercing. i love it.
