To be honest, I’m kind of an At The Gates hater. Except for two songs from Slaughter of the Soul, no matter what I tried to listen to, I just got bored, so I stopped caring about this band altogether. I still think the vocals have a bad style, but they haven’t made a bad album—there were parts where I headbanged and shouted “hell yeah,” and it made me happy. "it insists upon itself" -Peter Griffin

I listened to three albums in a single day, and I’m writing a comprehensive review of this one. David Gray and Sam Loynes are artists I’ve always adored since their days with Akercocke. And on this album, they’re amazing—that raw, primal intensity I love, that ecstasy, and that unique, metal style are utterly captivating. I hope Jason Mendonça collaborates with this band on an album in the future.

I’m not a fan of Immolation, and I don’t really like their style, but after listening to this album, I decided to give their discography another listen because I really enjoyed it this time. It’s a truly great death metal album, and there are several tracks I really like that I plan to add to my collection.
