A mixed bag of an album, the highs aren't as high as Heaven and Hell and it felt as if Black Sabbath was losing steam, within the next year Dio would leave and start his own band which starts the dark ages for Black Sabbath. Probably the last release of theirs worth listening to.
Dio's presence immediately revitalizes the band after what was a couple bad albums. The energy he provides on this album is immediately noticeable and make's it their best album since the early 70s.
The last good album with Ozzy, this album feels like the band slowly losing their minds as they are recording it. It works some times but it also feels like when the band finally lost control of their creativity resounding in some songs sounding oddly chaotic.
They try to experiment more with this record and when it works it's a classic, but when it doesn't it can feel overly pretentious.
A bit of a drop off compared to Master of Reality but that's to be expected, still has amazing songs and keeps up the greatness they already shown off on previous albums.
