A mixed bag of an album, the highs aren't as high as Heaven and Hell and it felt as if Black Sabbath was losing steam, within the next year Dio would leave and start his own band which starts the dark ages for Black Sabbath. Probably the last release of theirs worth listening to.

Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell

Dio's presence immediately revitalizes the band after what was a couple bad albums. The energy he provides on this album is immediately noticeable and make's it their best album since the early 70s.

Black Sabbath - Sabotage
NR

The last good album with Ozzy, this album feels like the band slowly losing their minds as they are recording it. It works some times but it also feels like when the band finally lost control of their creativity resounding in some songs sounding oddly chaotic.

They try to experiment more with this record and when it works it's a classic, but when it doesn't it can feel overly pretentious.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath Vol. 4
70

A bit of a drop off compared to Master of Reality but that's to be expected, still has amazing songs and keeps up the greatness they already shown off on previous albums.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality

30 minutes of probably the best 70s metal ever. Love the guitar tone for this album.

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
100

Black Sabbath perfects the metal formula here with a set of iconic tracks which have not only stood the test of time but influenced an entire generation after it.

Gang of Four - Entertainment!

Very good post punk the only issue is it feels slightly behind it's contemporaries that came out at the same time.

Daniel Johnston - Hi, How Are You: The Unfinished Album
NR

Man said "Hi, How are you?" then trauma dumped

Playboi Carti - MUSIC
40

This album is purely fueled by Carti's ego and his ability to get other better performers to carry certain songs. When the feature is good it makes the song good like "Philly" and "Good Credit" however there are times on this album where the features ARE the song which ruins the song completely. Doesn't help that 10 or so songs clock under 2 minutes and basically consist of 1 verse and that's it. Apparently this album took years to make but sounds so much ... read more

The first four tracks set you up for an amazing journey but the second half leaves you wishing it was more like the first half.

Can - Tago Mago

I want to like this album more, the innovative sounds and ideas are there and the production is amazing, the energy when it aligns is impeccable and unique only to this album but...Aughmn and Peking-O were absolutely unsufferable to get through and they make up a whopping 28 MINUTES! of this album. If this album managed to trim some of the fat, and/or cut down on the over the top trippy and overwhelming middle section it would've been rated higher. I am looking forward to Ege Bamyasi and ... read more

SZA - SOS

This album has a lot of good ideas but like most hour long albums doesn't do enough creatively to make it sound interesting. I would've enjoyed it more if Sza removed 5-10 songs off of this and made it the length of Ctrl. The beats are not as interesting as they were in Ctrl albeit her singing is better to offset, the issue is in the middle portion the album drags which hurts the project.

Sparks - Kimono My House

This album brings a unique energy to it, focusing on guitar and keyboard backings with crazy high falsetto vocals talking about random occurrences. I think this album works best when it has the darker edge talking about a failed suicide pact and changing from the overtly cheering writing but the production and songwriting is incredibly tight if you get past the initial vocals and weirdness that can be off-putting for some. I found some of the songs to be too repetitive for me which put me off ... read more

The Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde
65

This album by The Pharcyde radiates 90s hip hop energy, it has aged not the best although the beats are still really good some of the lyrics or verses have aged horribly and don't mesh well with the beats. I am not the biggest fan of skits in rap albums normally i feel like they break the flow of the album more often than they help and this album has 5 skits which i think hinder it for me. This album is at its best when it goes from song to song making the second half of the album significantly ... read more

Arcade Fire - Funeral
95

An album about youth that brings you back to your teenage years. The first half of the album is about the neighbourhood that Arcade Fire grew up on and the people there. It paints a serene picture of a Canadian city in the fall. This album has a boisterous edge to it with a lot of symphonic notes which makes the every day picture seem so much bigger than it really is adding to the themes of growing up.

Iron Maiden - Killers

The album is perfectly fine with some good songwriting but I feel it has a hard time living up to it's opening with the Isles of March and Wrathchild. Some songs feel like they don't actually build up to anything while others do. This feels like the band trying to find their footing and trying to figure out what to do. This ended up being DiAnno's last album with the band and while he isn't a bad vocalist it feels like he holds them back on some decent material.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Axis: Bold as Love
90

Classic bluesy psychedelia.

This album showcases Jimi's playing the best in my opinion as I think this is his finest guitar work put to tape. The songs are bluesy and rhythmic which makes them more memorable and Mitch Mitchell's drum solo on If 6 Was 9 showcases that the band wasn't just about Jimi's talent as a writer and guitarist.

The Beach Boys - Pet Sounds
100

A genius album.

This album was the album that made Brian Wilson a genius, and the songs on this album showcases a creative composition style as well as unusual orchestrations that must have been seen as insane to come from a band like The Beach Boys who prior to this album was mostly seen as a campy pop band trying to catch a surfer's aesthetic. The lyrics and sound of this album takes you into Brian's own world where there is pessimism and negativity but along with it a calming tone and some ... read more

Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You
NR

This album just screams comfiness.

It is very easy to just listen to Aretha sing and the performances on this album are so soulful they just calm you down. I think listening to Aretha is a good way to calm yourself down after a rough day and this album begins her peak as a singer.
