The Beatles - Let It Be

The Long and Winding Road comes to an end.

Honestly, this album isn't that bad and sounds good for the most part but I do understand why it isn't well liked. Comparing this to the stretch of albums the band had makes this seem like a horrendous record when it is still really good but not as good as what they have done. 2 songs on the album just don't count as songs and I think the orchestral and giant sounding ballads don't mesh well with the raw and live rock taken from the rooftop concert. ... read more

The Beatles - Abbey Road

The best Beatles album.

I stand by what I said. This album is better than Sgt. Pepper's, Revolver, Magical Mystery Tour, and the self titled album. This feels like the most together the band had been in years. Which is interesting given the fact that this was the last one they recorded. The second half of this album is a 16 minute long suite with songs perfectly flowing into each other as a long form song and I think it is the best thing The Beatles have ever done. You have to listen to this ... read more

The Beatles - The Beatles

A classic that is overly bloated.

This album is an iconic mixed bag of genres and the one that is the most confusing to rate for me. Yes it has some of the best songs The Beatles ever wrote, it also has Wild Honey Pie, Ob-la-di, and Revolution 9 which makes the record a lot more of a mixed bag for me. The band at this point was full of ego and was so determined to fill up this album they made 30 songs instead of the more ideal 15. As a result I truly do believe that there is an amazing album ... read more

The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour

An underrated psychedelic classic.

This album is the follow up to Sgt. Pepper and as such it is seen as inferior due to the status of the album preceding it but I seriously ask of you to listen to this. This album is the most psychedelic record The Beatles ever released and it stands out as a classic to me with many hit songs as well as a nice theme throughout it. Yes the songs aren't the most deep or philosophical but I genuinely believe this to be on par with Sgt. Pepper and Revolver

The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

An iconic follow-up.

Imagine being The Beatles, you just released Revolver which is already one of the greatest albums of all time and then you follow that up with this, an album that might be even BETTER. This feels like when the band was at their most experimental as well as most concise. The Beatles, took what they learned and experimented on the previous album then made a full picture the next album and utilized it again to make a just as good if not better sequel.

I believe you ... read more

The Beatles - Revolver

One of the greatest albums of all time.

This album is the first one in The Beatles discography where I don't think there is a single bad or mediocre song. It is front to back one of the greatest albums of all time. With songs talking about taxes, loneliness, a freaking yellow submarine. This showcases The Beatles versatility as they switch up genres in between songs and from the moment the punchy Taxman starts to the end of the trancing Tomorrow Never Knows this albums demands your attention ... read more

The Beatles - Rubber Soul

The beginning of the modern era.

I believe this album marks a turning point in music where artists start to take albums more seriously and actually try to experiment more in the studio. As such, this might be one of the most important and influential albums of all time even thought I do not think it is The Beatles best. This album marks them being more interested in doing different things with their songs than the usual formula of the past albums and as such you hear sitar, harpsicord (which ... read more

The Beatles - Help!
NR

This album feels like The Beatles flirting with greatness.

This album has some amazing tracks at the beginning and end that keep your interest but falls victim to some of the middle tracks just not being interesting at all. Act Naturally is a notable dud on the record and I think the biggest mistake on the album is having Dizzy Miss Lizzy as the closer instead of the amazing, iconic, Yesterday. This also was another soundtrack to a film starring The Beatles but this feels more like a studio ... read more

Did somebody say regress?

This album is a complete regression from A Hard Day's Night. While I respect the inclusion of songs with more complex theming and writing. Half the album (again) is covers, which makes me ask why they made the album if they were going to fill it up with subpar and lame covers that don't actually contribute anything to the sound of the band or the album itself. This album in my opinion doesn't need to exist and is up there with "With The Beatles" as one of ... read more

The first full Beatles album.

This album is a soundtrack to the movie of the same name starring The Beatles. Interestingly enough this is also the first full album to only have Beatles written songs. Making it the first actual full Beatles album. I do notice the recording and producing is getting better albeit some (if not most) of the songs on the record are a bit boring by their own standards. This album still has a classic title track and enough songs to keep you interested through the ... read more

The Beatles - With The Beatles

Talk about a drop off.

The second Beatles record is the best example of why artists shouldn't put out two albums in the same year, especially when they didn't even have enough material to cover the first one. This album starts off ok with the first couple songs making you think the band got it all together and that it will be an improvement over Please Please Me. Then Little Child starts playing and you realized they didn't improve at all. Finally to seal the nail in the coffin, the second ... read more

The Beatles - Please Please Me

This definitely feels like a debut album.

This album showcases the live sound of The Beatles at the time and yes, they sound good, but these songs feel a lot less interesting than the majority of the work they would later put out. The original songs by Paul and John are all about love and are a bit cliche and lyrically not that interesting albeit I would say by all means they are solid songs. The problem with this record is the covers. Yes, Twist and Shout is a classic we all love but that ... read more

Marvin Gaye - What's Going On
NR

An amazing album from Marvin. You can hear his passion about the injustices of the world on this album to a jazzy soulful groove made by the Funk Brothers. There aren't many complaints I have about this album other than some songs (like 'God is Love' and 'What's Happening Brother?') feel like they end abruptly meanwhile I think the song 'Right On' is a bit too long for my liking.

Overall though, this album is a masterpiece and a good little time capsule of what the world was like back then. It ... read more
