Godspeed's first project is a rough, abrasive, sad, uneasy, raw, and real project.
Even though Efrim has specifically mentioned that this music has "no relation to the band that followed", it does give it's signature dark, dystopian and apocalyptic atmosphere. You can hear the infamous sound of the band be formed, ever so slowly.
Objectively, the music isn't very good. It is very segmented and not very smooth. It is sharp and jagged. It is by no way dull or boring. ... read more
It’s alright music, but I think we just have to leave the songs to the original artists this time. It’s sorta a shame because I really like black midi.
Solid album. I prefer Toxicity a lot more, but it is still incredibly fun music.
This is an incredibly powerful, imposing and abrasive album. To my surprise, I think it was more abrasive than The Seer.
I think this album had more higher crescendos and a bigger presence than The Seer, but TS had a stronger atmosphere, if that makes sense.
Oxygen and A Little God In My hands are fucking bangers btw too.
This finishes the trilogy thing of TGM, TS and this. Damn.
More swans will be listened to in the future for sure.
If I had a nickel for every time I listened to a Swans album for the first time at midnight in the middle of the dark, I’d have 2. So far.
Although it’s a bit repetitive at times, it was still a very well made album. Apostate and Avatar are VERY good.
Even though it held a weaker response for me compared to The Glowing Man, it definitely created a thick atmosphere. I’d be lying if I said that I felt comfortable for most of this album.
I wouldn’t be surprised if my ... read more
I always listened to jazz-based genres of music, like Jazz Rock, Jazz Rap and Jazz Fusion, but I never listened to straight Jazz itself.
Well now I have, and it's magnificent. At least for this record.
Such a soothing album. It's almost like a trance.
And I have to say, it's incredible study music.
Definitely had great highs and some alright lows. The flow of the album is great, but I bet it feels best only when experienced as a full listen, even though there are standout tracks like All Caps. Overall, it’s a decent album and a classic, but it just didn’t blow me away unfortunately.
Ohhh... this was good.
I know I'm a D1 Godspeed glazer but still, this was great.
Super creepy, I really enjoyed Efrim's lyrics and vocals, and it definitely can be replayed.
Although there's not too much of any crescendo for each song, it was pretty damn immersive so it makes itself up with that.
I listened to this in a long car trip home at night. it made me felt uneasy… but it felt melancholic. I love it.
HOLY SHIT.
I decided to listen to this at midnight in complete darkness, and it was for sure the greatest listening experience I've been in.
This blew me away. Oh My God.
What is it with albums with a cardboard background to their album cover and being ridiculously good?!!
Ooh... This is good!
This surprised me of how much I actually enjoyed this album. Yippee!
Great Googly Moogly! What?!
This is an incredible album. The whole band gave it their all and I love it.
Willim approves
This album is good, but it lacked the GY!BE flair most of their albums had.
But it's okay Godspeed, I forgive you ❤️
A pretty groovy album. Every track is solid, though none really stand out. It still hits the mark perfectly for the ambient techno genre though.
This was so silly lol
A really fun album. Super fast-paced, hang-bangin' stuff.
HELL YEAH! Definitely my favourite black midi album. No denying that. And I have to note, the album cover just matches the music perfectly.
Nearly just as good as Schlagenheim. Again, a really fun and unique album to listen to.
To start off, I had high expectations for this. These expectations were met quite comfortably.
I mean, it isn't perfect, obviously from the not perfect score, and it had some sequences where I thought, "Hmm, why is this here?".
But come on, Pink Floyd's Echoes had guitars playing whales fucking, and I love that song, so a sequence of stylised bathroom noises didn't really disturb me.
And it was smooth, smooth sailing from there.
Utter bliss, really. Fishmans have ... read more
