Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts

Quite a good album. The lyrics might be the most honest we've got from her. Her sound is more cohesive and fitting than ever. But I can't help to feel that the record hasn't lived up to its potential yet. Most of the songs have big potential to be these great rock songs but they're watered down by (sometimes generic) pop hooks and some of them sounds unfinished/too fast. This makes most of the songs come off as average and not polished enough. It's kind of frustrating to hear but it is what it ... read more

Katy Perry - Smile

Nah I'm sorry this is not it. This album shines the most when Katy Perry is doing what she's best at: making unique bops (e.g.: Never Really Over, Cry About It Later, Harleys in Hawaii). But like the usual Katy albums, there must be some generic songs in it. In this case, it's most of the album. Sure the quality of production and lyric are quite good although mostly mediocre, but that's it. There's nothing special in this because the album lacks depth and mostly plays too safe.

Dua Lipa & The Blessed Madonna - Club Future Nostalgia

Amazing attempt of re-imagining a pop album into a house club album. I love the concept of the album being tied into one full song with all the smooth transitions, it's one of the reasons I can't skip any song even if the song is not really that great. Club Future Nostalgia also captures the original album's vibe while being a slightly different genre and even managed to make some duds in the original more enjoyable here (e.g.: Boys Will Be Boys Remix, Good In Bed Remix). Just like the ... read more

Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head

Amazing lyrics, simple yet very poetic. I love how it tackles existentialism matter in an interesting way that I haven't heard before. It's also a very cohesive body of work with every songs having their each own purpose and importance.

Lady Gaga - Chromatica

This one is a grower. I was ready to give it a 3, but after a couple more listens I understand that there's a really good album in this. The concept is great and the lyrics are quite good too (even though there are some songs with lazy writing). But too bad the album is kinda overshadowed by the generic production that makes listeners less attentive of what she's trying to say.

Coldplay - Everyday Life

I really like this album. They showcase more of their instrumentals here and it becomes as powerful as the lyrics and vocal performances. Yes it has less lyrics than usual Coldplay album, but it's effective enough to make us understand the message they're trying to convey. The album is more about what's going on in the world, the good and the bad. Rather than preaching at us about what we should've done, they give us a straightforward portrayals about what's going on so we can reflect it by ... read more

Carly Rae Jepsen - Dedicated Side B

Only Carly Rae Jepsen has the ability to make B-side albums sound better than most artists' A-side albums. I have to say it's on the same level as the side A (which is a testament on Carly's ability for making many great pop songs for a single album cycle), but Side A has the slight edge for me. I have to single out "Felt This Way" for being one of her best songs and thank God she was somehow able to release it alongside "Stay Away". Meanwhile I think "Fake Mona ... read more

Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia

An amazing pop record. The lyrics are the definition of brilliant pop songwriting: managed to be direct, catchy, short, and repetitive yet able to deliver the message and emotion. Combined with the big 80s and 90s themed productions, the first 9 tracks are definitely Dua Lipa's best songs by far. The album doesn't really finish as strong as it starts because the last 2 tracks sound like fillers but it's still enjoyable to listen as a whole entity.
