It's been almost 5 years since we've gotten this trio together for a project and this didn't disappoint. Will definitely be up there for one of my favorites this year. It's weird, exactly like them. I love how they each shine individually but mesh so well together.
But I have to say...Leonard Cohen is a ridiculous song and I don't know what they were thinking with that.
This was so close to a disaster. There are a few really good songs in here (Jaded, River), but the rest is a concoction of genres and every flavor of blandness, which I didn't think could be possible. I don't really know what this is trying to be. At this point in her career though, it seems like he's just having fun making whatever she wants. My firm believer is that she'd be a great rock artist, but this definitely strayed from that direction.
I'm just leaving a review to comment on the Dua Lipa comparisons: they're both Albanian. Have a great day.
This...isn't bad at all actually. There are a few really good hits on here. The rest is mushed together to me. But this is the first Skrillex project I've enjoyed in quite a while.
Unfortunately, not really memorable outside of a couple of songs. Got pretty bored halfway through until A Dark Place For Somewhere Beautiful came on.
Still beautiful, but isn't as pristine as some of her other records.
This is not meant in a negative note: this is good background music. It's the most avant garde Mike has ever been and it's beautiful. I just can't see myself coming back to it to enjoy all that often. Wouldn't go out of my way to listen.
While still a beautiful album, Josh Tillman's lyricism and artistry lacks on this project compared to previous records. It's good background music and I mean that as a compliment!
A surprisingly good pop rock album from the once-legendary new wave band. The middle of the record lags a bit but returns to great form toward the end, especially with End Of Night. I enjoy that they didn't let go of their sound at all. I feel like I'm taking a trip back to the 80s, and it works well with the resurgence of the classic 80s sound in today's music.
A little on the long side with the length of some of the songs (four songs over 7 minutes is bonkers). But a beautifully constructed album that is very ambitious for a debut.
While this is a beautiful piece of art and Beach House is a top dream pop group from this era, I got very bored after the 2nd chapter. The melodies lost their luster and it became repetitive. I'll definitely regularly listen to the first two chapters though.
Just not for me. My brain already sounds like this from having ADHD, I don't need it in my music, too.
Pleasantly surprised by this! It's kind of just the same throughout, which gets repetitive and boring after a while. However, there are some true bops on here like Sister Ray and Body Suit. It's the first time I've listened to Foxes (I know she has other albums) and I'm excited to see if she evolves in the future.
Frankly, this is a really beautiful album. Big Thief always puts out the best indie folk out there. But this is sooooooooo long. 80 minutes of music is just too much, I'm sorry. I'd give this a 90 if it wasn't 20 songs. Sorry if that's a hot take.
I genuinely don't think SAWAYAMA can ever be replicated or an album can come close to how perfect of a debut that was. That being said, this is a pleasurable sophomore release for Rina. Yes, this is a bit more mainstream than her debut album. But I do think there's a level of cohesion here from start to finish that SAWAYAMA didn't have toward the end. It more or less continues to tell the same story that she previously told, but in a different fashion.
