Decent rap album with some nice songs and some cool lyricism but nothing mind bending.
I think this album is really beautiful but it just seems to lack something. I'm not sure whether it's the production or the song structures or something else but this album just seems to have a vague air around it that holds back any precision or cohesion that would formulate these beautiful moments into a beautiful album. Despite this i did still enjoy the record and there are some great songs here.
This album is really frustrating because it starts of with some really great, hard hitting tracks which I think are exactly what I wanted from this album. Club friendly, rich and triumphant songs which show off everything which I would come to Lady Gaga from. Unfortunately there are only really six or seven tracks in the fourteen, 53 minute album run which fulfil this criteria. The other songs just feel unforgivingly bland and unbearable. I honestly can't stand 80s inspired, overproduced ... read more
I can respect this album for its sound and delivery but i'm not sure how often i'll be coming back to it
This is just such a solid album.
Squid have been a band on my radar for quite a while. Due to their frequent relation with fellow Windmill scene bands such as Black, Country New Road and Black Midi as well as there general presence in the current British 'post-brexit' post-punk uprising I have heard of them since their O Monolith release two years ago. However, I have only just checked them out now via this album and they did not disappoint.
The song-writing on this thing is just so ... read more
Mike is always mean with it.
This is my first mike project (i have listened to quite a few songs but never gone through a whole album) and i have to say i really did enjoy this. I think that mike has a really nice rapping style. He has a really cook sloppy flow at points on this album which just have such a swag. He also had the capacity to speed it up and produce more trap leaning flows. The beats in this project are either really good or just miss the mark slightly. I have to say that the ... read more
Honestly I can respect this album heavily but it just doesn't resonate me personally.
On paper, this album is right up my street with complex electronics mixed with elements of jungle, pop and R&B. Despite this many of the songs on this record just feel cold and alien to me. Don't get me wrong, there are some great tracks on this album. I love the title tracks catchy synths as well as the last track's comforting melancholy. However, many of these songs are just meh to me. I ... read more
This album is completely changed in the context that it was released and I think that this context has impacted many peoples view of this record.
That is why in this review I will be approaching this album as if it was released in 2015 and not scrapped.
Honestly, this album really reminded me of Tyler, The Creator's 2013 'Wolf'. I think that overall this album has some really nice sounds on it and displays what is yet to come from the rapper. However, I do believe that there ... read more
I mean this record is really yes and no for me. I do find the music itself extremely fun: the great production, raw crunchy guitar and rabid emotion. However, the crude presentation of the lyrics and the extreme 'no nonsense' attitude to their presentation just doesn't really work for me. Overall I still mostly enjoyed the tracklist even when the sound can get a little tired towards the end of the record.
This is a really cool EP;
unlike anything i've really heard before. It's insanely dark, amazingly ambient and exceptionally moody. Despite being such a solemn and melancholy work it really sounded fresh to me which can sometimes not be the case for projects with this kind of tone. The immense detail in the music is just insane. Songs like 'Etienne' which have insanely complicated synth arrangement which sound almost exactly like strings and then suddenly turn into other ... read more
