I had to get one review on here before the end of 2025.
I am very excited to be starting this dive into Deftones’s discography having heard some of their classics like My Own Summer and Change in the House of Flies. This was a very enjoyable listen, but lyrically and instrumentally, Deftones are not at peak form yet. Songs like Bored and Engine No.9 let me know that they have always been capable of making bangers that have me wanting to listen again, but many of these tracks aren’t ... read more

Super consistently good. I like the vocals here, although they are a little low in the mix sometimes. The riffs here are pretty kick-ass all throughout, but it is very clear that this is an 80s album. There's a happy-go-lucky vibe to this album that reminds me a lot of many synth-pop artists and songs that were really popular throughout that time. This is the most fun I've had listening to a Kendrick album that I can remember. It sounds like he has a lot of bangers left in the tank even after euphoria and Not Like Us. There's definitely a strong island feel to this one, and from the bit of research I did it seems that this album is based on stories of the Obeah man, a spiritual figure in some Western African and Caribbean beliefs. As for the music itself, the first 3 tracks are all really strong as the ratings would suggest. Exuma: The Obeah Man is a fun and danceable tone-setter for the rest of the album ... read more

The instrumentals are super cool I can't lie. It's a very impressive album musically with its grand usage of Aziza's piano playing and the accompanying drums and bass. The only reason I wouldn't rate this higher is that it's on the longer side at about an hour and 10 minutes and it gets repetitive by the end. Oh, and the couple of tracks that randomly added vocals were kinda strange with the album flow, not really a bad thing just ... read more
