Exuma and his accompanists make quite a spooky clamor with their various bells, foot drums, chanting, gasps, sighs, shouts, and other percussive instruments, creating a mood both celebratory and scary.

i loved the singers' voices, the choirs and the percussions hit just right, i felt i was there with them, surprisingly good

If I heard that one of the best albums I’d be hearing in the near future was from the Bahamas 🇧🇸, I’d tell that person to get a grip. Even though I generally love traveling and cultural tourism, all of that interests me. I just wouldn’t have faith that great, high-quality material would come out of that place. wow, this is a journey.

this is one of the most unique sound folk albums and maybe simply albums i have ever heard, melding tribal freak folk with incredible soaring crescendos akin to the greats of old blues music. this is the sort of thing i would imagine the enslaved tribes in early colonial era africa would make, and my description seems to be partially accurate as the secondary genre "calypso" was birthed in the 19th century when trinidad and tobago were colonised by the ... read more
