Its a good nostalgic sound of quality music. With that being said its a sad reality that the pop music industry cant create new content. I was 100% sure that I'm listening to an unreleased compilation album made by 2Pac, Next, Justin Timberlake, James Brown, Prince and Michael Jackson.
Its a good album and you will spin it a few times and it will get boring pretty fast because it doesn't have its own sound or face.
Its surely not the typical Jack White album, but damn it has presence. Its like a mixture of a Prince, Santana, Pink Floyd with influence of rock opera, electro funk and garage blues. It will require some time to digest.
I divided this album into two sides. The 4 instrumentals and the 6 non-instrumentals. I absolutely loved all the songs with the vocals. The instrumentals on other hand felt like soundtrack music for adventure movies or atari games.
Fav tracks - Stop, Fire, Pleasure, Safe And Sound, Love SOS, Randy
Cassius bringing an uplifting, 80's cheesy sax sounds, the easy listening Ibifornia. Its melodic, full of collaborations with great artists like Mike D from the Beastie Boys, great vocal additions by Cat Power, Pharrell, Portugal. The Man. Its a summer album, too bad it got released at the end of August.
This is definitely a new sound from Jim James. Its chill, its slow, its hip, its melodic, its moody, its psychedelic. Its as almost this album was produced by Beck, written by Zero 7, performed by Jim James and edited by The Flaming Lips.
I could not but comparing half the album to unreleased B-sides tracks by Zero 7 that didn’t make it into their Simple Things album, that came out 15 years ago. The down tempo mood, background melodies of violin, simple synths, melodic acoustic guitar.
Just take away Thom’s vocals and there isn’t much there. It’s not a bad album but can’t give it the same A+ grading, like many people do.
Good Radiohead like tracks – 1,3,5,7,9. The rest – emotional ... read more
This album is like a combination of HAIM/The Shins/Maroon 5/Portugal. The Man. It has that rock indie pop sound to it, I dont think its a bad thing but its nothing special and I feel will be forgettable to the real fans. I think it will get quite a bit of commercial radio play this summer.
Fav Tracks: Go Robot, The Longest Wave, Sick Love
At first listen PBnJ album took a direction to more electronic, dance and dream indie pop. Its catchy, moving and simple.
A combination of Frankie Rose, Miike Snow, Foster The People and Capital Cities. I would say this is their comeback at more commercial sound that isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Its a mixture of Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes and My Morning Jacket.
Musically the album is uninteresting. Has 3-4 hit singles, maybe. Too much cheap auto tune. Its missing that concrete energy that all his previous albums had.
Good Tracks:Ultralight Beam, Waves, Fade, No parties in LA, 30 Hours.
Its a good avant-garde electronic album in the likes of Aphex Twin, Amon Tobin and Tricky. Its good for one listen or two then it becomes really annoying and heavy.
Great album with great samples. Lots of featuring artists that bring a range of sounds, lyrics and moodiness. Its really a chill album, blusy and atmospheric.
Its a mixture of Drake, Kudi, Dre and Kanye.
I found this album to have few really memorable songs and the rest is really boring. Its a mixture of Brit-Swede-French garage pop rock in the likes of Phoenix, PBnJ and Arctic Monkeys.
Good album, funky songs and groovy mood.
Favorite tracks: Sunny Side Up, Black Friday and From The Dead.
Great album, rock'n'roll version of Marina and The Diamonds with hints of bluesy Hanni El Khatib and Gogol Bordello.
Its a good chill album in the likes of Caribou "Andorra", Tame Impala "Innerspeaker" and Empire of The Sun "Walking on a Dream".
