Kaki King - Infinite Ache
83

Kaki King continues her creative streak with another EP of intimately produced, solo guitar compositions. More than twenty years into her career, Infinite Ache demonstrates that her technical ability and expressive performances are still just as captivating.

Honningbarna - Voldelig Lyd
87

Honningbarna's Voldelig lyd is a short, yet filler-less garage punk offering that pays dividends thanks to sharp guitar work, fiery performances, and stunning band chemistry. The more I connect with this band, the more they give back.

Charli xcx - Wuthering Heights
66

Trading club anthems for rusted strings and dark ambiance, Charli XCX delivers a haunting companion piece to Wuthering Heights. While the songwriting occasionally hits a creative wall, the record's sonic world-building remains a daring testament to her artistic stamina.

Fuelled by youthful wonder and arena-sized emotion, M83's Hurry Up, We're Dreaming is a cinematic rush that still feels limitless years later.

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium
62

Somewhere in Red Hot Chili Peppers' 2006 double album, Stadium Arcadium, is a solid album with funky, fiery, and serene tracks. Although, the highlights only account for roughly half the album's runtime. The other half is made up of long-winded, stagnant jams.

Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You
61

On their final self-produced album, Unwound defies expectation with more experimental songwriting and production. Instrumentally, Leaves Turn Inside You is beguiling, but unfortunately Justin Trosper's vocals are not given the same careful consideration, severely detracting from the album's level of enjoyment.

The Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
87

This 2-hour double album from The Smashing Pumpkins is engaging all throughout thanks to an ever evolving tracklist that starkly contrasts the band's grunge and dream pop elements, as well as some incredibly bold and adventurous sonic detours.

PLOSIVS - PLOSIVS
49

PLOSIVS' debut offers straightforward, driving alt-rock that ultimately doesn't live up to the pedigree of the members involved.

St. Vincent - Daddy's Home
59

Daddy's Home sees St. Vincent lean into a slick 70s funk-and-blues lounge aesthetic that's well produced and confidently performed, although not really to my personal taste.

Statues - Same Bodies, Same Faces
85

Statues' Same Bodies, Same Faces is a punchy, eight-minute power pop-punk EP that captures worker monotony, exploitation, and burnout. As a fan of this music who is now a member of the working class, I find this EP deeply relatable.

Tune-Yards - Nikki Nack

Nikki Nack is a vibrant, rhythm-driven art-pop album where Tune-Yards blend playful experimentation with primal percussion, inventive bass work, and Merrill Garbus's powerful, versatile vocals.

Zola Jesus - Conatus
75

Zola Jesus' Conatus remains a compelling record a decade later with her striking blend of powerful, operatic vocals and dark, synthetic, gothic textures.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Fever to Tell
82

Fever to Tell turned the Yeah Yeah Yeahs from a one-song curiosity into a revelation, trading the tenderness of Maps for a noisy, chaotic, and wildly danceable art-punk assault driven by Karen O's unhinged charisma and the band's electric chemistry.

Whack World is a brilliantly inventive debut that introduces Tierra Whack through 15 one-minute tracks, each showcasing a different style, mood, or skill with wit, personality, and technical flair.

Weezer - SZNZ: Spring
47

Weezer's SZNZ: Spring continues their uneven streak, offering quaint, Renaissance-inspired pop that lacks the catchy riffs and quirky charm that once defined the band.

The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping
95

The Waitresses' Christmas Wrapping is a witty, relatable holiday classic that captures the stress of the season while rewarding its protagonist with a serendipitous ending. The track boasts a tight, funky, and inventive arrangement featuring standout bass, playful sax, and charming talk/sung vocals.

Vampire Weekend - Contra
89

Vampire Weekend's Contra is an indie-pop classic whose immaculate production, playful electronics, and dynamic songwriting have warmly invited me into a sound I previously wasn't all that interested in.

Unwound - Repetition
85

Anchored by Sara Lund and Vern Rumsey's exceptional rhythm section and Justin Trosper's volatile vocals, Unwound's Repetition rewards exploration and stands as a compelling entry point into the band's underrated catalogue.

Undo K from Hot - G.A.S. Get a Star
24

Zach Hill and Nick Reinhart's new project abandons the freaky punk energy I hoped for in favour of abrasive power electronics and industrial noise. The results feel neither novel nor compelling, often coming off as grating for its own sake.

Twin Atlantic - Vivarium
86

Vivarium is a no-frills, passionately performed, larger-than-life rock record whose power comes from the battling guitar dynamic between Sam McTrusty's chaotic eccentricity and Barry McKenna's soaring melodies.

On Periphery - Periphery V: Djent is Not a Genre
"I'm glad you're really enjoying the album. It's honestly difficult to express what I don't like about this record without sounding contradictory. I have enjoyed really long winded and repetitive sludge and doom records, but I also have enjoyed linearly structured songs as well that constantly switch things up. What I was trying to get at with Wildfire (and honestly this record as a whole) is that it occupies this awkward grey area in between where it constantly moves from section to section making it difficult to grasp on to a groove/vibe/whatever. However, each section feels derivative to whatever came before making it hard to get a sense of progression within the song. Maybe that clears up my position a little bit. Anyways, appreciate the comment and thanks for taking the time to read my silly opinions."
On Placebo - Never Let Me Go
"You're hilarious! Thanks for the feedback :D"
