This is *the* djent album. I consider this to be better than anything Meshuggah has ever done.
The only things in the prog space that can even touch this are the more spacey soft stuff, which isn't a particularly fair straight-up comparison.
This album is mandatory listening for anybody with even a passing interest in progressive music. The kind of piece that I genuinely believe the majority of the human population should have heard at least once in their lives.
Relistening to this for probably the 30th time in the last couple months and yeah I just had to toss this review out.
This is, in my opinion, their masterpiece. It's a pinnacle of the genre and it represents them doing everything right. Holy shit what a fuckin album dude.
It's like if the guy behind that one Bungo Stray Dogs opening made his own take on 10,000 Days.
That might not be the most accurate description, but at least around track 3 it was all that was running through my mind.
I liked it a lot! Prog rock, an alt sound, interesting vocals, generally pretty unconventional, really a good experience!
Impossibly badass album art and it really has its moment, but the age of this album is showing. I liked it but I just don't see much of a reason to listen to it when more modern examples of the same style and ideas exist.
Mad respect for doing it so early!! I'm sure if I had heard this at release it would have blown my mind.
