Youthful Arkansas native Jesse Welles has been at it for years but moves beyond protest music to the sophisticated alternative country of Middle.

very much a bob dylan fan because the influence is clearly there but too bland to be anything more than a copy

I’ve been criminally short on covering country and folk music this year, so let’s fix some of that with an independent artist who has seen a lot of buzz this past year and you may have even seen across TikTok. His best album yet. I love to see that the quality on Jesse's albums keeps going up and up with each release. I find it a bit weird that Fear Is The Mind Killer is on both this and the previous album, but I won't complain because it's a great tune. I especially loved War Is A God, super powerfully written. Fellow Masayoshi Takanaka and Blood Meridian fan, Jesse Welles, made a very gritty, open, and American folk album. Includes western harmonica, fiddle, and cello. He’s cool.

This definitely had more of a country vibe to it, which took some getting used to on my part. I found myself missing it just being him and his guitar, but I can appreciate the production value. I liked this, but not as much as I would have hoped. ... read more
