His new record, the uneven-yet-somehow-still-sexy Hyperion, makes a formidable effort with a string of high profile cameos and genuinely accessible pop tunes, but ends up recalling past greats rather than cementing a unique identity for its creator.
A major label dance music album spoiled by too many guest stars.
Even with a decade of experience under his belt ... Hyperion suggests that Lévy isn’t quite ready to make the professional leap that the album supposedly represents.
On ‘Hyperion’, feted French producer Gesaffelstein fails to recreate his past glories, turning in a confused and lacklustre record that is only fitfully inspired.
Hyperion fails to reach the depth or drive of Mike Lévy’s previous work.

This is my most played album of all time I think I’d by lying to myself if I kept it at a 70 this album is my no.1 favourite vibe of anything I’ve ever heard it’s so deep, hypnotic and smoky I feel like such a cool mf listening to this omg the production sends me to heaven

The Songs with Pharrell and HAIM are obvious standouts to me despite them taking me back to the summer of 2013. the rest of the album is futuristic techno gibberish. The 10 minute closer Humanity Gone brings nothing new apart from its length. Gesaffelstein had everything to prove with this album but unfortunately it seems their biggest work will remain their Abel Tesfaye collabs, which are pretty good.
It's a really cool project, but it falls flat in a lot of areas.
I honestly don't even remember where I found this project but I was intrigued by the album cover being all black. It has an incredibly strong first half, with only a few things I don't like. The Weeknd has really annoyingly written lyrics as I've come to expect from him, but the song itself sounds pretty nice so I can somewhat forgive them. A positive I have is "Blast Off" is INCREDIBLE, it feels like early 2010s EDM ... read more
