The sixth studio long-player from Netherlands-based symphonic rock outfit Within Temptation picks right up where 2011's generally well-received conceptual outing Unforgiving left off, expanding on the group's penchant for stylistic elasticity while maintaining a foundation of solid songwriting and engaging narrative.
Hydra is a solid enough continuation of Within Temptation’s brand of operatic goth-inspired metal.
Hydra will perhaps not convert many to become followers of Within Tempation, however to their loyal following, Hydra ticks all the boxes whilst adding a few to the list.
If you came from Unforgiving this is such a downgrade. I like the collabs with Tarja and Dave but Dog Days is so annoying (torture music in some point). Even tho I can still enjoy some musics im afraid im gonna puke with the 2019 album.
+5 for Tarja :) .
Favourites: Silver Moonlight, Paradise, Edge of the World, Dog Days
Can do Without: Tell Me Why, And We Run
I love the duet with Tarja (me being a Tarja fangirl as usual) but the rest of the album feels too generic imo.
