20 years into their career, the Massachusetts metallers show no sign of slowing down.
Atonement is an important record for the band, as it will largely determine their creative viability and their place in metal's increasingly fragmented and confusing world.
Atonement is a monster record in an almost untouchable career.
This is yet another solid offering from Killswitch Engage, one in which serves up a reminder why this band are considered one of the founders of metalcore.
The outfit’s eighth album overall (and third with Leach back in the band), Atonement, proves that Killswitch Engage haven’t missed a step.
Atonement is an album that does not sound particularly ground-breaking or outstanding on the first listen but gets better each subsequent time.
Jesse Leach opens his heart and finds strength on eighth Killswitch Engage album, Atonement.
Atonement is a competently delivered album, but hardly one for the history books, both for the band and the genre in general.
Atonement is rated ''Good'', in my opinion, due to it being 63.64% relistenable.
Nerd Breakdown:
Ratio -
I view a masterpiece as 80% relistenable (8/10). Since AOTY goes to 100, I have to account for this by dividing 80 by 100. Giving me 0.80.
Out of 11 Total Songs -
0 were Skipped (Each equals 0.0)
8 were Good Album Songs (Each equals 0.5)
3 were Liked Songs I would go out of my way to listen to again. (Each equals 1.0)

I really enjoyed this project.
When I first found out about Killswitch Engage, they never really gained my attention. But when I saw the cover of this project on the new releases page on this site I was certain I was going to listen to it, it certainly is one of my favourite album covers of the year. So I was really surprised that this band gained my attention by just their album cover. Thus far I had only listened to one song of them, 'My Curse' from their 2006 studio album 'As Daylight Dies' ... read more
Yep, these kinds of metalcore bands just keep pumping out the exact same trash they've been making for years and years now. I don't even know why I expected anything different. While this album might be slightly less cringey than other albums in this genre I've heard it still is a really unpleasant experience. The cheesy vocals, awful breakdowns, over-produced guitars, and painful lack of variety makes this so taxing to sit through. These bands all act like they are making these heavy, epic ... read more
I will say their feature with the og singer Howard Jones was good but everything else idrk
Still one of my favourite metalcore albums to date, haven't really found one by Killswitch Engage after or before that really blew me away as much as this one did.
This is the final Killswitch album I've listened to, and I'm sorry I really don't feel this one. Usually the more subpar Killswitch albums can fall back on great choruses to save them, but there's barely any of those here. The riffs are generally pretty good, but the overly polished production takes away any bite that they might have. Maybe an unpopular opinion but imo this is definitely the bottom of their discography, at least This Consequence was able to atone (hehehe) ... read more
