No longer innovative and not incredibly compelling, Devo returns on a new label (sans longtime drummer Alan Myers) for another go-round. Diehards may want this album for the "Disco Dancer" single, but overall, the album doesn't really approach past Devo successes.

The record is billed as “11 digital cartoons from the de-evolution band,” which is not too far off the mark. If you listen closely, the bass drum on this record sounds suspiciously like a digital sampling of the sound of a dead horse being beaten.

If you ever see an artist's or band's release not on spotify it is usually for one of three reasons; 1. The rights aren't cleared 2. They don't want the project on streaming for personal reasons or 3. it is really fucking bad. I hate to say it but I think it is a mix between 2 and 3 with most of the reason being because this thing is garbage. "Total Devo" is perhaps the single most misunderstood Devo album. The lineup wasn't exactly same, the tone could seem a little more reserved than usual, and the cover itself could be argued to convey some sort of wishy-washy nature of the band at the time. Truly, it wasn't the strongest time for Devo, but like the rest of their releases, the album is full of the eccentric beats and messages the band had become known for. I can't tell whether some of these songs are meant to be funny or not. Everything sounds so awkward. It's like that one guy at school who would joke all the time but he never said anything funny so you fake laugh so that he doesn't feel bad.
