I'm a fan of Darko, and I always was, I think they're one of the most boundary-pushing bands in Deathcore, not to mention how incredibly fun and out-there their sound is. It's pure crack cocaine. I really enjoyed their latest output as well, Starfire was an amazing album from them, and a good follow-up to the incredible Oni and self-titled and I also really liked the Deathmask EP's they've put out, especially Deathmask, Pt. 2.
So I really like Darko's music, but I ... read more
I mean, I gave Starfire a 100 on first listen, so I knew there was no physical way I wouldn't give this a 100 too.
First off, it's definitely better than the massively stuffed tracklist of Starfire, and is imo better than Oni 1 too. It's more daring, better produced and has higher highs (Congratulations is my fave Darko song). The electronics are a really cool part of this sound, and meshes real great with the nuttily heavy everything-else. I mean, the album is really beautiful ... read more
feels good man.
'Oni 2' is an incredible and heavy album and cements as one of their best, maybe I'm this excited because 'Starfire' and 'DETHMASK PT.3' kinda sucked.
The mixing and mastering are thick and noisy in a lot of moments; the production is at their best with a lot of interesting moments, making this album their most dynamic yet. I do have some nitpicks with the track list, as a lot of songs don't properly flow too well (good example being ... read more
I need some ibuprofen.
Yeah, no amount of experience in metal will prepare you for the migraine this album will give you, but you'll at least have a good time while getting it. Given the nature of Darko's music, I would have been slightly disappointed if I listened to this album and didn't feel a little nauseous, and I was not let down, so I'm now going to spend the next hour cuddling my toilet waiting for the great purge. While we wait, though, here are some other thoughts ... read more
wow... they returned...
this album was that step in the right direction I mentioned in Dethmask 3, but I don't think they are back to their Oni 1 level of quality. But it is still really good. The songs are chaotic, heavy, and pretty fun on the heavy songs, though Tom's vocals are super distorted, and I can barely hear what he's saying on most, if not all the songs. In fact, most of this album is super distorted and unclean, which can help for the heavy instrumentals, but ... read more
Production is pretty bad and musically it's so disjointed, but I guess that's part of the fun with Darko. There are moments I enjoy, but as a full package, it just doesn't land for me and I'm not sure it ever will. Can't fault the experimentation and they're undoubtedly very talented, but I can't get on board.
