Leppard's quest for huge, transcendent hard rock perfection on Pyromania was surprisingly successful; their reach never exceeded their grasp, which makes the album an enduring (and massively influential) classic.

Equally filled with tight musicianship, infectious melodies & anthemic choruses, Def Leppard and producer “Mutt” Lange reset the boundaries of how accessible metal can be.

Def Leppard may not be highly original, but they mean what they play, and Pyromania puts some much-needed fire back on the radio.

Well crafted '80s pop metal with a light bit of filler here and there. The hits are still as massive as ever, it's not hard to see why they became the stadium band they are. Even though the radio has drilled their songs into my head, they're easy to like, especially in the context of the full album.
There's a slight amount of deja vu with a couple of these tracks, the same extremely reverberated drum beats are on most of these tracks. Some lyrics are distinctly '80s glam, but for the most part, ... read more

Reviewing Rollingstone.com’s The 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time #52

Three of the four singles from this album are very good. The rest of the album is just ok.

Their next album Hysteria is far superior imo and much more consistent.

This kind of rock music is really not my cup of tea: Shy hard, uptight melodics sung with husky lead vocals, on the verge of arena hard rock or with other words hard rock which is too poppy, crowned with the failed rock ballad "Too Late for Love". If there were a need to play some songs of this album my choice would be the rock ballad "Foolin'" and the forceful "Rock of Ages".

I honestly had a really hard time rating this album and I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's because I'm still quite unfamiliar with Def Leppard, but most of the songs sounded extremely similar to me, so seeing the differences in user ratings threw me off. All I really know is that I liked each track quite a lot and there are definitely some underrated ones on this album; I'd say my favourite track is the first one, Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop), yet it's join fourth lowest ... read more

Missing grandeur

Def Leppard was a big influence for me as I found the type of rock that I liked as a kid. It was edgier than most of what else my family played and "Photograph" reminded me of a crush. However coming back to it now, I was slightly let down. Hair metal is just a little too cheesy for me and this record is not an exception. As edgy as Pyromania is, it lacks the real punch or depth I look for from rock/metal. There are some good riffs but most of instrumentation feels really stock and ... read more
