Xiu Xiu - 12/17
Pretty much "F*g Patrol" part 2.
I mean, yeah, that's kind of the best way to sum this up. Just like its stylistic predecessor, "Unclouded Sky" is a bare, intimate collection of quiet folk songs that consist of Jamie, a guitar and some other subtle sonic details, such as bleeding ambience or, most importantly, field recordings. This project makes quite heavy use of field recordings, as, between every single cut, there is a short interlude of natural sounds. ... read more
Unclouded Sky is an interesting little side album for Xiu Xiu, featuring Jamie covering a bunch of old folk/country songs accompanied by field recordings of mostly birdsongs. [XIU XIU DISCOG RUN 11]
while this albums concept and backstory is really cool, the music itself is just really nothing interesting
i can appreciate it for being so wildly different from the rest of their discography, but this is literally just a collection of very barebones, empty folk tracks with some bird noises in the back.
overall just a very empty album, another one i probably wont be coming back to often
