Following 2013’s Change Becomes Us, which re-worked early 1980s song sketches into full songs, Wire feels at first almost strangely normal. Colin Newman does most of the vocals in his gentler speak/sing mode, and the feeling generally is calmly inviting.
After what I believe is 13 studio albums, Wire finally drops a self-titled project. I think it’s very fitting that their self-titled project reflects their infamous post-punk sound. It’s a travel back in time filled with some modern touches throughout the tracklist. Though not very different from much of their previous work, it’s still a neat listen.
Très bonne surprise puisque Colin Newman et sa bande ont enregistré un disque abouti, rempli ras la gueule d'accroches mélodiques impeccables, dans un album qui garde ce qu'il faut de rugosité. Wire a emmené cet album en tournée l'automne dernier et ils étaient à l'affiche des Musiques Volantes à Metz.
