Everything on Memorial is first-rate, from the band’s robust performance, to Ribeiro’s charisma, to the graceful production, to the songwriting.
An album to savor. When I first heard Memorial it sounded very forbidding and uncharismatic. It is heavy on chugging guitars and combined with some high pitched strings the songs are surrounded in a somewhat noisy atmosphere. But beneath that, it is like it opens up into uninterrupted greatness. It helps to listen to with headphones. The songs are monumental in scale yet very raw and visceral.
