despite all of its flaws and some incoherence between both parts, the two-sided «darkbloom» features some highlights that make this an essential listen to every grimes fan. «vanessa» is an ethereal hidden gem, and d’eon’s «telepathy” is nothing short of an astonishingly produced track using interference noise.
the rest of the tracks range from good to really nice ones, making this a usually overlooked debut project.

Looking at this having only listened to Grimes’s tracks, it’s not terrible. It’s not as good as Halfaxa, but the production is similar and the production is light and synth heavy. An alright EP that I don’t see myself returning to. My highlights are Vanessa and Crystal Ball.
