Emphatically No. wrings as much fun as possible out of decidedly not-fun times.

Cheekface’s gift for combining the mundane and the dystopian together will always remain a delight.

Listening to Cheekface is a little like listening to a friend recite funny tweets to you while your roommate practices post-punk basslines in the other room.
That's not a complaint.

Under the Radar
Are there answers to all these frustrations? If there are, Cheekface doesn’t have them. But the band seems to recognize that sometimes the best you can do is laugh

They improved the vocals so hard between Therapy Island and Empathetically No. The production took a jump too, and they still have the same charm as before. An upgrade on all fronts. Great listen. Strongly recommend fans of indie rock bands like Dinosaur Jr., Modest Mouse, Cake, and Pavement.

Somewhere between Cake & Kiwi Jr. a blend of post-punk and indie vibe that does some silly storytelling but I liked this! It’s funny and apart from some vocal similarities Cheekface do their own thing.

with bangers like "listen to your heart, no" and "wedding guests" its hard for me not to like this album

This album while more consistent, doesn’t have the same highs as their debut album for me personally. The writing is still off the wall and funny while being politically charged but I just wish some of the instrumentations were as memorable as some of the ones on their first album. Overall I generally enjoyed ... read more
