Why as low as a 79? This is a singular achievement in songwriting in mellow singer-songwriter soft rock of the 70's.

Flowers?!? For Me?!?! 😲👈 Todd! You shouldn’t have!!

I stand by that Todd Rundgren does not get nearly enough attention. Not only was the guy a prominent producer for many big acts of the 70s and 80s, but he was also so much more inventive compared to most singer-songwriters of the time. I'm glad I discovered this record through a friend, because maybe instantly I would never have heard it. 'Something / Anything?' is an album that shines on its own, bringing the best of 70's pop rock without sounding monotonous or uninteresting, there's plenty of room for experimentalism, especially after the track 'Intro' where there's a change of narrative within the cd, and it's from that moment the album goes to a place of unique musical exploration. Very underappreciated, and many frequent reviewers here would probably really love this one. Owning this one on vinyl has been eye-opening (besides Todd's droll liner notes) as to how the album functions. I think this is one of those albums taken hostage by a digital remaster that misses the original point.

Side 1 (tracks 1-6) is all the radio-friendly hits. This side is virtually perfect. Every song would be most people's best-ever songwriting achievement.
