Every time somebody tells me Nas is overrated and not top 10 OAT, I can just point to his Live at the BBQ verse. What other rapper do you know that at only 16 years old, on his first verse ever, has THAT good of a feature? Nas has always been an incredible emcee, but for him at only 16 years old, this early into his career, to have already nearly perfected his flow, cadence, and delivery right from the jump is crazy. Phenomenal early jazz rap/boom bap. I would listen to it more often if it was on the streaming services I use. It is very innovative, and still kinda holds up, especially for being released in basically 1990.
fav song: Live at the Barbeque
least fav song: Scratch & Kut
Breaking Atoms is a towering blueprint of Golden Age hip-hop, revered for Large Professor’s revolutionary, jazz-fueled sampling techniques that fundamentally altered the landscape of rap production. Beyond its sonic innovations, the album holds a legendary place in history for introducing the world to a young, pre-Illmatic Nas on the seminal posse cut "Live at the Barbeque."
