Even if it picked up in the second half, this album wasn't as much of a phenomenal experience I thought it would be. It features a lot of experimentation, but I think it's executed in such a clumsy way it doesn't impress me at all, feels more like they've thrown a bunch of generic ideas together hoping they would stick, which is pretty obvious in the first two tracks which are kinda alt-metally, very 90s sounding, or The Orphan, which in my opinion is a tedious ballad. Better Unborn: Great riffs with an amazing chorus effect. I especially love the way they make the pinch harmonics sound. The chorus is quite 90's coded, but I don't mind.

Against Widows: Very similar to Alice in Chains in some parts, especially the song Love, Hate, Love. The sound's a little dated, but once again, I don't mind.

The Orphan: This song is lowkey ass :/

On Rich and Poor: Fun riffs, a bit repetitive though. I wish the rest of the song was as good as the main ... read more

A great progressive melodic death metal release but quite an overlooked band, Amorphis and although many bands have done progressive metal and melodic death metal better they're are some amazing cuts on here such as My Kantele, Better Unborn and my personal favorite Against Widows
