"Borders" is one of her smoothest songs, with a dancehall throb and "Big Pimpin' "-style hook. But simplistic, if heartfelt ยญlyrics don't measure up to the subject or the singer.

POOR PEOPLE WHATS UP WITH THAT

edit: I know the rating and my "review" seem kinda averse to each other, so I'll explain myself. This is not a bad track. It's weird hearing Maya on a trap beat this simple, but I actually think it kinda works. Sonically the track is catchy af, but the chorus is kinda giving this "I'm 14 and this is deep" energy with the "*something*, what's up with that?" template being repeated throughout the song, which ends up sounding kinda ... read more

this would be lower but i like the chorus part where they go "whats up with that" despite that part and really the whole song being really shallow, lazy and unproductive commentary.

Despite the pretty repetitive chorus, this was such an impressive song, especially considering the fact that MIA wrote this in 2 hours. But the best part of this is the bangin' production, like, hot daaaamn.

Also damn, the music video is pretty fucking amazing too.
