It was a good move on his part to treat Useless Creatures as a real album rather than a collection of outtakes. If you’re a fan of the man, it’d be in your best interest to do the same.
If there’s one thing, though, to take from Useless Creatures, it’s that some things can be beautiful, no matter how useless they might be.
Creatures isn’t as engaging as one of his conventional albums nor as thrilling as one his live shows but at the very least it’s gives us fifty minutes of how this man might well spend his morning. And for a man as musically interesting as Bird, that’s no bad thing.
Useless Creatures provides fans who covet the meandering, more exploratory tracks that often populate his proper albums with a full plate, while giving those who are drawn more to his radio-friendly pop leanings an out.
Just explored the world as a little beetle. You know an album is just a stream of consciousness when there's a 40-second long song that's just electric guitar in between a ton of brilliantly crafted 5+ minute long mini adventures
