With such a magnitude of inventive minds, CLEARING, at its greatest, sounds lucidly superb, elegantly disruptive, and unabashedly diaphanous.
There might not be a more emotionally affecting record to come out of the PC Music camp and the hyper-pop genre than Clearing.
On the whole, CLEARING is a success but I can’t help but feel a number of the beats and instrumentals were throwaways from the PC officianados, like A.G. Cook and EASYFUN, while a lot of the SOPHIE cuts must have been sitting around for a while – though you can understand the desire to use them.
NO NUANCE REVIEW
Yes, Hyd as an artist is not quite fully realized. But god damn, the production from PC Music heavy hitters and affiliates, especially the tracks SOPHIE worked on, more than make up for it. I’m just glad we’re finally getting new music from one of the best minds to have ever graced music, and I’m more than happy with what we got and can’t wait to see what else comes from the vault, even if this specific project was a mixed bag on the songwriting front.
