Assured, short and ultimately sweet, Friendly Fires is a glib reminder that you don’t need an M6 underpass, New York penthouse or guestlist to have an all night disco party, and remind us there’s no shame in getting your groove on.
Hailing from St. Albans, an English commuter city known musically for producing the Zombies, Friendly Fires arrive on the heels of the British indie-dance zeitgeist helmed by the Klaxons and New Young Pony Club. Although their self-titled debut has the immediacy and hard hooks that riddle so much of this genre, Friendly Fires show an amplified, ambitious, and inventive attention to detail that helps steer them away from sounding like just another polished party band.

I liked this album a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Indietronica and Alternative Dance are not genres I’m familiar with at all, this is probably the first time I’ve ever seen those genres, but I really enjoyed this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even though this album can be really forgettable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I still liked it though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Friendly Fires are the stereotypical late-2000s electronica act - stupidly catchy, obnoxiously infectious, and unfathomably energetic, with some incredibly dynamic lyricism and quirky song topics ("Paris" being about... well, you know), backed up with a bright, melodic sound that's just quirky enough not to be relegated to the leagues of radio filler, songs to fill a time slot, essentially. To learn that the trio, led by the passionate vocalist, bassist and synthesizer player Ed ... read more
Friendly Fires es una de mis bandas favoritas de alternative dance y este es un muy buen disco bailable que nunca pierde su ritmo. Atemporal y muy disfrutable.

Now this scratched an itch I've had for quite a while!
If you're after another reason why late 2000s alt-dance/dance-punk/new-rave stands as goated as ever, the next stop is right in front of your face, in the Shape of this record. It's almost like Two Door Cinema Club's long lost cousin or smthn, I swear.

This album is alright, but it’s very inconsistent. This album has some moments, where everything comes together really nicely, which creates for a great experience. Honestly my main problem with this album is with production. This album has a lot of good ideas, but the production just ain’t that good on a lot of these tracks. The mixing isn’t all that great and this album is just seems like a mess of sounds, with no direction at points. There are tracks where the production ... read more
