Diesel and Dust is that rarity, a bid for the larger audience that's also an artistic success and a triumph for leftist politics -- even the Clash never managed that hat trick this well.
Anyone, anywhere, who has felt the sting of the lash, a heel on the back of the neck or the hate in another man's eyes will hear a piece of himself on Diesel and Dust. The rest of us can revel in it and learn from it. Or choke on it.
Not exactly the hottest take out there: but I firmly believe that if Midnight Oil were American or British, instead of Australian, they would be much more firmly established in the rock music canon.
