I still highly recommend Space Oddity. It might be a little jumbled, but it's still an excellent folk rock album that benefits from a lot of personality and songwriting flair.

"The record is based a lot on the film 2001. It's a mixture of Salvador Dalí, 2001 and The Bee Gees. Really it's just a record which amuses people."

Has anyone ever pondered on the sudden leap in quality from debut to sophomore? We all know his music began to look promising from this moment forth, but something clearly changed... so what significant thing transpired in the late 60's for this artistic growth to occur?

After his debut didn't blow him up, his label wanted him to do the same thing, but better. And this definitely worked out here. Intro track released 5 days before launch of Apollo 11 missions, blow him up. His originally second "Self Titled" record shows his grow as artist.
