All things considered, Watain succeed in crafting a two-faced creature for those seeking to bang their heads or brood in nihilistic contemplation.
For a band that was at the cusp of mainstream crossover, it is certainly a curious prospect to hear them return deep within the underground to reclaim their throne with razor-sharp, no-nonsense extreme metal.
It begins with "Nuclear Alchemy", pleasant old school force. Nothing too crazy but it carries good fury and energy. The riffs cut with rage, I like the descent to Hell in the middle, from there it takes a nice tone, a little more theatrical. The solo is zany, adds chaotic atmosphere more than anything. Just not my thing. The guitars sound cool but its too lo-fi and the intricacies of the instrumentals are muddled. The songs are okay but nothing really grabbed me.
